Humans aren’t the only ones who should be able to savor the treats of summer! Why not let your dog join in on the fun? On the days your dog is overheated, treat your pup to some (pup-safe) ice cream! Here are three dog-approved ice cream treat recipes perfect for the summer months.

Pumpkin Ice Cream Treat

Pups love pumpkin! Mix it with some peanut butter and sugar free yogurt and you’ve got yourself a delicious treat for your four-legged friend!

What you’ll need:

1 can (29 oz) 100% pure pumpkin puree
½ cup of all-natural peanut butter
1 cup plain yogurt

What to do:

1. Combine yogurt, peanut butter, and pumpkin puree in a blender and blend until smooth.
2. Pour the mixture into a freezer-safe container (or if you want to make fun shapes, pour into a bone or paw-shaped ice cube tray).
3. Cover and freeze for about 3 or 4 hours, or overnight.
4. Once they are frozen, it’s time for your pup to enjoy!

What you’ll need:

1 container (32 oz) of plain (all-natural) yogurt*
2 tsp all-natural peanut butter
1 ripe banana
Package of small Dixie cups (or ice cube trays)

*If your dog is lactose intolerant, you can substitute soy yogurt instead.
(Optional: Feel free to add fruit, like strawberries or blueberries, or honey)

What to do:

1. Blend the ingredients in a blender.
2. Once mixed, pour into Dixie cups on cookie sheet or ice cube trays.
3. Pop in the freezer for a few hours or overnight, then enjoy!

Patriotic Doggy Ice Cream Bones

Perfect for Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day or just any day of the week!

What you’ll need:

Plain low fat yogurt
Strawberries
Blueberries
Real maple syrup (not pancake syrup)

What to do:

1. Wash fruit and chop into ¼”- ½” pieces.
2. Mix yogurt with the maple syrup using ratio of about 1 tablespoon maple syrup to 1 cup yogurt.
3. Sprinkle fruit randomly into either muffin pan or bone-shaped pan.
4. Cover the fruit with yogurt mixture (make sure the yogurt is all around fruit to avoid air bubbles or empty areas).
5. Place pan in freezer for at least two hours.
6. Serve!
